Believe it or not, there a theory that attempts to explain the idea of the Bermuda Triangle; it's called the Vile Voritces Theory. Created by Ivan T. Sanderson, the theory states that there are twelve Vile Vortices on the planet; five located near the Tropic of Cancer, five near the Tropic of Capricorn, and two at the poles. These twelve sites are the sites for many oceanic and air anomalies, mechanical and instrument malfunctions, and loss of aircraft or boat. The most famous is the Bermuda Triangle, the Devil's Sea, and the South Atlantic Anomaly. This theory is also associated with the Hollow Earth Theory; that the Earth is actually hollow inside and has habitable inner surface. Now how does this connect to Lost? Well, it could explain a lot! I think the first and foremost is the location of the vortices; off the coast of Australia, the poles and in the Sahara. Why are these places so important? Well the first is a given; it's the vortice that the plane flew into. The second one is important because the Black Rock was a slave ship that sailed the Pacific Ocean. The ship was also going east, therefore putting it right in line with the same vortice as the plane; thus landing it on the island. Now, the pole is for another obvious reason; polar bears. And the Sahara is interesting for a few reasons. First of all, there is the skeletal remains of a polar bear with a DHARMA collar in Tunisia. Second of all, Mr. Eko's brother, Yemi, was in a plane that was flying drugs out of the country. How would it find its way onto the island?! The vortice in the Sahara.
Another interesting bit of information is the diagram used to explain the Hollow Earth Theory and the logo for Oceanic Airlines are oddly similar in design.
Back to the theory of these Vile Vortices, it could possibly be that the island is indeed in another dimension/time that was accessed by these vortices. I think it may be interesting if the woman the Juliet was speaking to before her book club meeting on the season premier of season 3, turned out to be Amelia Earhart. There are some odd references to Earhart (namely in the FIND815.com alternate reality game).
So my theory!? These Vile Vortices are how you access the island. And the woman is Amelia Earhart!
