Diary: World Wide Autistic Day

I do have to say, seriously first, that autism is a very very sad disorder. My cousin is mildly autistic and the physical and mental effects of the disease are immense. She makes great production, but there is still that slight lack of normalcy. The communication skills, concentration, understanding are not all on par. It would be awesome and great to have a breakthrough, which I hope we do. And I hope this "does vaccination begin regression" debate is more closely studied. The cases are freakishly out of the realm of coincidence, but studies show no correlation. So it is a big toss up at this point.

But, on to a lighter story. My friend and I were at Cold Stone a few weeks ago and we walk in and I get in line and this kid begins to LOUDLY speak at us. I should say, this employee. The way he is talking to us, slow and simple, the first thing I thought was "this is a kid trying to be funny by being mentally challenged". Cause he trying to sell us on a kids cone cause that was their special of the day. I rolled my eyes, my friend turned to me and laughed so I just looked away before I lost it (again; neither of us through he was autistic). As we go on, my friend turns to me and goes "OMG, I just laughed at a mentally challenged kid!!". As I turned around, his actions were very slow, and those of a mentally challenged person. I felt bad, she thought she was going to hell.

Fast forward to tonight! We go back to Cold Stone, and she orders her food, then the SAME KID turns around to take my order. My first thought was "wow, he must not be as bad as I imagined if he is going to mix my order". Well, like he did last time, he LOUDLY and slowly announces the special and I say no and order my order. Quickly, he goes "okay" and is COMPLETELY NON-AUTISTIC!!!! My friend just looked at him glaring and I was thinking "...I wish I were in her head right this minute!" Afterwards, we get to the table, I'm laughing and she is pissed as hell. All this time she felt horrible, like she was going to hell. Meanwhile, the kid was lying the entire time. Totally not autistic in the slightest bit. It was a very South Park moment. But it was COMPLETELY awkward that it happened today on this day.
